The whole week sees a number of events being hosted to explore the skills and career pathways within the Oil & Gas industry.
On the final day, OPITO are hosting a variety of seminars and presentations on Friday, November 14th to showcase their new skills tools and other initiatives that have been used by the upstream oil and gas industry for a number of years.
Hosted throughout the morning at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Aberdeen, the interactive sessions will give attendees an overview of their new and existing tools, created to assist with recruitment challenges as well as improve skills in the workplace.
OPITO’s Workshop & Seminar Details
eLearning Programme and Skills Connect Tool – This interactive seminar will introduce OPITO’s new eLearning programme ‘Introduction to the Oil & Gas Industry’ – designed to give a clear understanding of fundamental industry components. This session will also feature our Skills Connect tool, which will help bridge the gap between the core competencies of military and the industry.
Skills Screening – The Skills Screening tool is a powerful web-based recruitment aid. This presentation will give an overview of the tool, the additional disciplines recently added and how incorporating this tool into your recruitment process will benefit your organisation.
Petroleum Open Learning – Our flexible ‘Petroleum Open Learning’ courses allow candidates to set the pace for their own learning and development in oil & gas. This presentation will look at the courses available and how they can be included in your training and development programmes.
Employer opportunities within ‘The Upstream Oil & Gas Technician Training Scheme’ – This seminar, delivered by OPITO and ECITB, will cover the scheme in detail, looking at the current curriculum and the benefits of becoming a sponsoring company.

Practical Lessons in Coaching’ for the Oil & Gas industry – Ivan Lendl didn’t teach Andy Murray to play tennis, but to change his attitude. This ‘practical lesson’, delivered by Elaine Manley, looks at the power of coaching to change behaviours, to drive safety, quality and performance.
University of Strathclyde Engineering Academy and Oil & Gas Institute – The Engineering Academy is a pioneering initiative to provide employers with graduates who have appropriate work experience and practical skills as well as supporting the widening access agenda. This presentation will include a look at the new Strathclyde Engineering Academy and the HSE leadership course.
Accreditation for Prior Learning (APL) for Oil and Gas Industry– A presentation on how Glasgow Caledonian University, through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), can improve business performance and at the same time offer staff the opportunity to gain new and career rewarding qualifications.
