Are YOU ready to be Hired?

Kat ReidAs some of you may have already heard, especially if you follow us on Twitter or LinkedIn, UP and Aberdeen-based networking group Aberdeen Young Professionals, have teamed up to bring the fun-filled and exciting competition “The UPprentice” back to the North-east. 

This week, Kat Reid, a Committee Member for Aberdeen Young Professionals tells us more about the competition!

Let me tell you a bit more about The UPprentice: First held by Urquhart Partnership and Acumen in 2009, the competition is inspired by the hit BBC Television show lead by the inimitable Lord Alan Sugar who, alongside Nick and Karren, filter out would-be entrepreneurs to find Lord Sugar’s next business venture.  The UPprentice however is slightly different. Rather than individuals competing, there will be teams and all funds go to our charity of choice, VSA.

For those who haven’t heard of VSA before, they are a social care charity focused on one aim – building a strong and social care community. They have been developing awareness within this area and raising funds since 1870. They focus on numerous key areas of social care such as improving the lives of young people with disabilities, services for the elderly, support for full-time carers and many more across the North East.

The UPprenticeOn Thursday 17th September, we will be beginning the competition with our Launch Event, where any queries by competing teams will be answered alongside a presentation from VSA about what our efforts will support. There will also be speeches from Campbell Urquhart, mastermind of the competition (or as he is now known, Lord Urquhart!) and Ross Jolly, founder of Aberdeen Young Professionals.

Fundraising will begin the following day, Friday 19th of September.

If this wasn’t exciting enough, whichever team turns in the largest profit at the end of the six-week period, will be crowned The UPprentice(s) 2013 at an awards dinner held at the AECC on November 21st which will celebrate the efforts made by all those involved. There will also be awards for the most money raised per team member as well as for other categories, including most innovative fundraising idea, and the best social media campaign.
