‘Jobs boom’ forecast for North Sea Oil & Gas

The Opportunities in Oil and Gas Recruitment Events have come at just the right time!

Following a report from Oilandgaspeople.com, the BBC have reported today, (Monday 14th January 2013) that a jobs boom has been forecast for the North Sea Oil & Gas Industry in 2013, predicting up to 50,000 new jobs could be created.

With investment in North Sea Oil set to continue, many new projects have already been announced or are underway and future big announcements are likely. The report estimates that “demand for qualified staff is set to reach an all time high”…

Aberdeen’s Skills Pool needs restocking!

The news comes just a few weeks after recruitment firm Reed predicted that the wider jobs market is set to continue its recovery into 2013.

Although it’s great news to hear, a jobs boom here in the Oil & Gas industry in the North East is only likely to exacerbate an existing problem that we, as an industry, have been trying to sweep under the carpet for years….the skills shortage.

It’s something that we’ve discussed before on The UP Blog but is a problem that is not going to go away unless the industry starts to take action, and re-stocking our skills pool may take some time.

To aid the process, The Urquhart Partnership are seeking to help the industry bring in transferable skills from out-with the area…with the welcome return of the Opportunities in Oil & Gas Recruitment events!

Working in collaboration with the industry, oil operators, contractors and service companies, we bring together key organisations at one day events in prime locations throughout the UK, attracting skilled individuals to attend the events and meet with the recruiting organisations face to face.

In previous years, we have run successful events in Glasgow, Newcastle and Manchester and after a 5 year break, due to market demand we returned to Glasgow in September 2012 and ran another hugely successful event. Feedback from exhibitors has been incredibly positive; many were able to make multiple offers following the event…job offers were even made on the day!

Now in 2013, we are set to run a further 3 events:

  • 7th March – Newcastle (where we previously had a staggering attendance of 5,000 potential candidates)
  • 25th April – Aberdeen
  • 19th September – Manchester
